new bedding textiles from ikea
Great new bedding textile designs from Ikea! That first one makes my heart skip a beat, but I don't think I could pull it off in my "adult"-looking bedroom. Shame! The last two are from their children's collection.
germinate (5000 seeds) by shannon rankin
Germinate (5000 Seeds) by Shannon Rankin is composed of tiny circular maps eleganty spiraling into one large circle. A write up from The Boston Phoenix:
"Shannon Rankin meticulously cuts and splices maps to play with language and form as related to nature and its processes. Her minimalist works on paper are both clever and beautiful in their delicate execution as well as their sensitivity to color relationships and geometry. She extracts the sculptural and topographical potential of the maps, folding and overlapping, to draw connections between natural and constructed systems.

window films by emma jeffs
I think that window films are a wonderful solution to creating privacy whilst also allowing light into a room and showing your personality in the space. Plus, it saves the hassle of installing drapery rods or blinds in a space that otherwise has none - which is a money saver, especially when renting! These frosted window films by Emma Jeffs have a contemporary and feminine feel and would complement a variety of styles.

inspirational interiors from bolig magazine
Bolig Magazine features some lovely Scandinavian interiors that will definitely serve as inspiration for my next apartment, and the one after that, and the one after that... I can't speak much more about the website because I do not speak the language! But that was half the fun of navigating it, I think - shifing outside of the comfortable into uncharted territory.

Made of porcelain, these Spool Vases by Mara Skujeniece were inspired by the forms and structures of industrial yarn bobbins used in the weaving or knitting of fabrics.

seasons by nao tamura
Seasons by Nao Tamura is an interpretation of functional kitchen and serving ware, inspired by nature and technology, through the cultural lens of Japan. The silica sand dishes are leaf shaped and flexible, rolling for storage. More from the artist:
"In the land where I grew up, spring is a time when Japanese sweets come wrapped in cherry leaves. In summer, a fiery ripe tomato is carved out for use as a serving container. In autumn, fallen foliage from maple trees decorates the dinner table. And, the aroma of bamboo helps create the setting for winter. Just as winter is followed by spring, there are things that wither and are those born anew. Both truisms run deep and are able to move us from our core.
Is this the cycle that dictates life on Earth?"
Aren't these breathtaking?? I can't decide between displaying them rolled or stacked with that wonderful organic silhouette. Or even thrown in a disorganized pile... seriously!

popville pop up city book
A clever litttle pop up city: Popville by Anouck Boisrobert, Louis Rigaud, and Joy Sorman.
"Popville is a pop-up book in which each page corresponds to a moment of the city development. Some urban and landscape elements remain constant references for the growth of the city, while others simply disappear and make place to new ones. What lasts is the steady stream of occasions and possibilities which, in the book just like in reality, remain unpredictable till the moment of turning the page."

copenhagen packaging and game design
"Hello Monday has designed Copenhagen's new board game that draws inspiration from classics like Monopoly and Besserwisser. Authenticity is a key concept in the design and brings together historic and contemporary elements to give players a real Copenhagen experience. To execute this mission everything in the game has been custom designed to reflect the city's ontology: the pieces, the bills, the game board, the cards, and the packaging.
The Copenhagen Board Game is more than a simple board game. With a strong focus on sustainability, energy, transportation and nature, players are encouraged to think about their own choices in their efforts to build the city. In other words, the game encourages engagement, discussion and participation with the design."

I am really impressed by both the versatile functionality and simplistic beauty of these Juuri Glasses by Sarah Böttger. The various glass containers can be combined with plastic rings and disks to create new vessels. The rings create larger, open vessels whilst the disks create divided chambers.

black volcanic sand vases by jon bjornsson
Jon Bjornsson's Flower Eruption vases and bowls are made from the black volcanic sand of Icelandic beaches. Vases are cast in paper moulds. The sand is mixed with resin and the mould is filled from the bottom. After the resin dries the mould is torn off and the finished vase appears. Wow!

scented pearls by miya shinma
Everything about this packaging makes me smile - the simple concept, the simple solution, the simple materials... lovely. Perle Parfumée, designed by the Japanese Parisian Miya Shinma, is a scented sphere for sachets and home aromatherapy. If someone left these out in a dish like potpourri I'd probably accidentally eat a handful.

5th gymnasium monograph by bruketa&zinic OM
A lovely monograph that I doubt most schools could afford! Designed by Bruketa&Zinic OM:
“This is a monograph for one of the best and oldest high-schools in Zagreb, the 5th Gymnasium. We packaged the book in a pencil-case filled with school utensils (pens, pencils, rulers, etc.) Everything was custom made for this project and branded with school’s visual identity. The school’s curriculum emphasizes mathematics - this idea is reflected in visual identity (upside-down 5 reads like a G).”

mcnally jackson bookstore cafe by front studio
McNally Jackson Bookstore Cafe designed by Front Studio:
"A scattering of books hangs precipitously from the ceiling, as if a pile of books had been thrown into the sky and frozen. The curved wall surrounding the seating area is covered in wallpaper made entirely of open spine books, the texture of the print adds a rippling effect of restless pages. Running along the wall is a series of folding single tables, carefully crafted to resemble a folded book when closed."
